Hi there!! My name is Chandra Styles and I am serving as the interim Junior High Pastor at Forest Grove until June, 2010. n530915242_2746820_3785My husband, Kirk, and I are very excited about the group of leaders we have coming out every week to be a part of this rad ministry and we have really enjoyed beginning to get to know the kids. We have had an awesome few weeks so far getting back into the swing of fall and we look forward to the months ahead.

This year we are gonna be running two types of events…FUSION: a big group night of high energy games and a chance to meet together afterward to hear a Bible talk from the word of God; and we’ll have DIVE: a night to connect to a smaller group of kids and consistent leaders where you can have lots of laughs, be able to be open and honest, and get a chance to grow together as a community. Our first DIVE groups will be kicking off Friday, October 9th.

Schedules for Sept. – Dec. are out and can be found on the back of my office door at the church (pop in and say hello!), or click here and download it. Our Fall Retreat is also coming up on Oct. 23rd-25th. If you would like a FALL RETREAT registration form, just send me an email!

Want to get your schedule sent to you in the mail? Make sure you fill out a STUDENT INFO card when you come to Jr High or send me an email with your address and we’ll make sure you get one.

Please feel free to send me an email anytime if you have any questions! chandra@forestgrovecc.com

We’ve had a couple youth nights for you guys to get to know our crazy leaders and to meet and make new friends…now its time to DIVE into small group time! DIVE groups are small groups within our large group. All of you guys will be divided up into smaller groups with two leaders each. Every week we’ll spend a little bit of time in our DIVE groups, connecting and discussing what’s going on in our lives and the things we’ve been learning.

To be in a DIVE group, you should fill out STUDENT INFO CARD at the welcome table, if you haven’t already. If you would like to make sure you are in a DIVE group with your friends, send Pastor Chan an email at chandra@forestgrovecc.com and let her know who you are and who you would like to be with (this includes leaders).

Come on out this Friday from 7:30 p.m. – 10 to have lots of fun getting to know your DIVE group!

Last week @ FUSION: “Bible Smugglers”

IMG_2705Last week @ Fusion we played a very exciting game of Bible Smugglers, one of Pastor Chan’s most favourite camp games! Each team got a package with money, Bibles, and passports for each team member. They needed to successfully get the clues to their checkpoints to figure out how to get across the border. But we didn’t make it easy for them. There were rebels out to detain them and make sure they weren’t smuggling anything they shouldn’t be. Luckily they could buy guides who would help them get outta site of those crazy rebels. It was a grueling task to get to the finish line with as much $$ and as many Bibles & collected items as possible. It was super fun to watch teams crawl their way through the church to get to the border.

We started to dive into our theme for the year: Eye Contact. We talked about why our eyes were closed in the first place. We read the story of Adam and Eve and how our knowledge of good and evil came into the world. We realized that we now live with something called shame because Eve chose to eat the fruit that God had asked us not to. Shame is often what we feel when we sin, which means we go against what God has asked of us. Its a terrible feeling and sometimes feels like its going to be permanent, making our sin feel impossible to make right. We left off on the idea that sin, though it is our nature, is NOT permanent, and God can take anything that seems wrong and permanent and make it permanently different.

Jr. High things…
