The Advent Conspiracy Water Project

2009
11.19

Advent Conspiracy is a movement to SPEND LESS and GIVE MORE this Christmas season. We learned about the water projects that our church is embracing this season to give CLEAN WATER to those who have never had it before. We learned that only $100 will be a BioSand Filter for a family or community in a country that does not have fresh water. We also learned that our youth group spends approximately $100 on snack every week. So what if we SPENT LESS…what if we gave up our snack every week to buy a family clean water? And what if we GAVE MORE…what if we gave part of our allowance every week to add to the money? What if we asked our parents to give us $ towards a filter instead of a Christmas present? What if we sold something we had but didn’t need so some people could have clean water.

What if?

Two weeks ago we threw out an idea to give up snack, which our youth group spends $100 on every week, and donate that money to buy a BioSand filter to a family who has never had clean water before ever. But what if we did more? What if we, as a youth group, took from our allowances and piggy banks and GAVE MORE? What if we MATCHED that $100 every week?

WHAT IF WE DARED TO CONSPIRE?

Shoebox Dedication Service on Nov. 22nd @ 11 a.m.

IMG_3829On Friday, November 6th our DIVE groups made 26 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and initiative run by Samaritan’s Purse. Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children living in desperate situations around the world through the distribution of gift-filled shoe boxes and the message of God’s unconditional love.

As DIVE groups, we filled these shoe boxes with articles that a child some where around the world may have never had before.

If you are still interested in filling a shoebox with your family or friends, go ahead! The national collection week is from the 16th-21st. Forest Grove Community Church is a collection site, so if you get one done, bring it to the church by Sat. November 21st!

Fill your shoe box with a well-balanced variety of items from the following categories:

  • School Supplies – Items such as pencils, pens, pencil crayons, note pads, and picture books
  • Toys & Other Gifts – Items such as stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, and candy (loose, individually wrapped hard candy in a sealable bag)
  • Hygiene Items - Please place soap in a sealable bag

DO NOT INCLUDE:

  • Toothpaste (due to customs regulations)
  • Food and any chewy, crumbly, or soft candy: Including gum (due to customs regulations)
  • Used items (due to customs regulations)
  • Playing cards
  • Liquids or items that could leak, melt, freeze, or break – Shampoo, creams, lip balm, bath gels, mirrors, or glass, etc. (these can damage other items in the shoe box).
  • Items that can scare or harm a child – War-related toys, knives, and toy guns, etc.

We will be sending them off with love and prayer during our Sunday morning service at 11 a.m. on November 22nd.

Please feel free to email me, Pastor Chan, at chandra@forestgrovecc.com if you have any further questions or would like to know more about how your family can get involved in this project.

Last Week @ FGCC Jr. High… Girls & Guys ONLY!

2009
11.19

It was a fun week @ Jr. High as the girls and guys got to split up to have their separate fun!

The girls headed to the church for a night of baking and primping and a super fun photo shoot. The boys headed to Carson’s for a night of eating and gaming and lots of laughs. It was a rad time to connect together and have a little “girl time” and “guy time”.
