Loose Change to Loosen Chains

Our church has been learning about poverty and injustice and how much of it there is in the world. We have learned about slavery in the form of bonded slavery, forced labour slavery, and the sex trade. We have heard stories of those who are trapped in these realities and have come to a realization that IT MUST STOP.

This spring, Forest Grove Community Church is challenging its members to raise $58,000 to fight against injustice in our city and our world. With this money we will donate half to The Bridge Ministry on 20th, a street ministry in Saskatoon who is looking to build transitional housing for those who participate there. We will also donate to International Justice Mission (IJM), where it takes just $1,000 to help free a slave from the time of finding out where they are to the point where they are put in aftercare.

Loose Change to Loosen Chains (run through IJM) is a student-led campaign for elementary to college students to combat modern-day slavery while learning about the reality of injustices today. Estimates suggest there is $100 in loose change lying around the average Canadian household. Imagine what you could do if you were to collect even just a fraction of this amount and use it for a good cause!

From now until Easter, we will be collecting Loose Change to Loosen the Chains of injustice. We propose a TRUE FAST, in light of Isaiah 58. That we would each commit to fasting from one thing we normally spend money on so that we can give freedom to some one who may never have it without our help.

Look for our LOOSE CHANGE bin at the welcome table at every youth night! Lets fight injustice together! To learn more about the Loose Change to Loosen Chains campaign, click HERE to check out IJM’s website.
