What a celebration we had last week!! It was everyone’s birthday all wrapped into one big event. And what did we do to celebrate? We gave gifts, of course! But not to each other…to kids who need them the most. Each DIVE group went around playing Birthday games in order to win prizes to add to their Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. It was lots of fun to hang out together…play fun games…and know that we were making a gift for a child who may never have received a gift before.

After our night of games we talked about Christmas and the fact that we, as North Americans, spend a crazy amount on Christmas every year. And most of the times, its not necessary. We threw out the idea that we could change our mindsets and instead of giving so much to people who already have so much…we could give to those who have none.

Advent Conspiracy is a movement to SPEND LESS and GIVE MORE this Christmas season. We learned about the water projects that our church is embracing this season to give CLEAN WATER to those who have never had it before. We learned that only $100 will be a BioSand Filter for a family or community in a country that does not have fresh water. We also learned that our youth group spends approximately $100 on snack every week. So what if we SPENT LESS…what if we gave up our snack every week to buy a family clean water? And what if we GAVE MORE…what if we gave part of our allowance every week to add to the money? What if we asked our parents to give us $ towards a filter instead of a Christmas present? What if we sold something we had but didn’t need so some people could have clean water.

We may not be competing in Vancouver 2010, but we’ll give it our best and aim for the gold in these rather unusual and peculiar events. There will be medals for the winners and prizes for some of the most outrageous costumes. Get ready to rise to the top with your DIVE group as victors of Hallowe’en Olympics!

Its FINALLY here! The “Fall” Retreat is this weekend: Oct. 23rd – Oct. 25th. Because the youth are gone there will be no Friday night Fusion and no LifeTime on Sunday morning.

We’ll be meeting at the church at 5:30 and heading to Redberry Bible camp for an entire weekend to chill out, enjoy some down time, and to learn about God together. There will be tons of fun games, great food, a chance to strut your acting ability during our Saturday night skit show, and a time to connect with God. The weekend cost is $90.
